Obituary

Vanita Brewington, a lifelong resident of Boston and the devoted cornerstone of her family, passed away peacefully February 9th. Born on December 20, 1949, to Elige and Florabell Brewington, Vanita's life was a masterclass in love, service, and creativity.

A proud graduate of Boston Public Schools, Vanita turned her natural gift for nurturing into a lifelong calling. As the owner and operator of her own daycare business for many years, she wasn't just a provider; she was a second mother to countless children. Her "babies" grew up under the watchful eye of a woman who was as patient as she was kind, instilling in them the same warmth she gave her own kin.

Vanita's home was the ultimate gathering place. Whether she was expressing her soul through her art or whipping up a feast in the kitchen, her door was always open. To know Vanita was to know that Sunday meant a seat at her table. If you weren't at Vanita's on a Sunday afternoon, you truly missed out on the best meals and brightest laughs.

Her legacy lives on in the vibrant artwork she created and the recipes she shared, and the deep sense of family she fostered in everyone she touched. She was a "nutrient-loving provider" in every sense of the word-feeding the bodies and souls of all who entered her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elige and Florabell, grandson Bobbie, siblings, and lifelong friend and father of her children's David Brimage.

Vanita is survived by her loving family and a community of friends who became family. She leaves to mourn her 5 children's Timmie, David, Robert, Josie, and Maria, 8 grandchildren's, 7 great-grandchildren's, siblings Hildreth, Glen, Pru, twin sisters Veronica and Deborah, and host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
