Sylvia Anita Wilson, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away leaving behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to others. Born on January 20, 1936, in St. Michael, Barbados, Sylvia was the beloved daughter of the late Stafford Goring and the late Ernesta Sealy. She spent her early years in Barbados, where she began her working life at the Port of Bridgetown (Deep Water Harbour), serving faithfully from 1962 until 1969. In 1969, Sylvia migrated to Boston, Massachusetts, where she began building a life rooted in resilience and purpose. She worked as a nanny for two years before beginning what would become a remarkable 55-year career at Massachusetts General Hospital. Starting as a dietary aide, Sylvia's commitment, work ethic, and compassionate nature helped her rise to the role of Assistant Patient Services Manager. Sylvia was known by colleagues and patients alike as someone who consistently went above and beyond. As one manager shared, "Sylvia is always willing to come to the aid of others. She is a caring individual sensitive to the needs of others. She will always stop whatever she is doing to attend to the needs of patients, visitors, family members, and staff—always putting others before herself. She has always been a dedicated and loyal employee, and her dedication deserves to be recognized." Beyond her professional life, Sylvia was deeply committed to giving back. She supported numerous charitable organizations, including Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Salvation Army, St. Francis House, Pine Street Inn, Wounded Warrior Project, and Shriners Children's Boston. Sylvia found joy in life's simple pleasures—listening to gospel music, watching her favorite television programs, spending time with family and friends, and traveling whenever she could. Her faith was also an important part of her life, and she was a member of St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Stafford Goring and Ernesta Sealy; her siblings, Raymond Winstone, Joyce Winstone, Linda Winstone, St. Elmo Brathwaite, Avenille Brathwaite, and Sonia Brathwaite; her nephews, Tyrone Winstone, Ray Winstone, and Shannon Garrett; and her niece, Marcia Sealy. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Katherine Winstone and Veronica Trotman (husband Samuel "Mitch" Trotman); her grandchildren, Samuel "Sam," Shinnika, Sharifa, and Sylvan; and her great-grandchildren, Donavan, Deshaun, and Ryan. She is also survived by her siblings: Henderson "Rudolph" Winstone, Anthony "Tony" Winstone (wife Nadine Winstone), Collette Brathwaite, and Carson Brathwaite. Sylvia leaves behind a large and loving extended family of nieces and nephews, including Enrico "Fela," Eusamar "Cheryl," Wendy, Jamal, John, Jason, Cheyanne, John Jr., Solange, Nicole, Shay, Kevin, Malik, Arlyah, Mia, Deja, Mekhi, Kyrie, Isabella, Na'riyah, Sarah, Tammy, Andrew, Makeba, Shameka, Fabian, Kymani, Kedar, Seynova, Nefertiti, and Nevaeh. Sylvia Anita Wilson will be remembered as a woman of strength, kindness, and selflessness. Her life was a testament to service, love, and dedication, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
