Obituary

Shirley (Jasey) Montgomery was born in Richmond, Virginia on April 29, 1940 to the late Clinton Jasey, Sr. and Ruby Jasey.  She moved to Boston at an early age with her parents.  The middle of three children, she is preceded in death by her older sister, Hortense (Jasey) Simmons and brother-in-law, Alfred Simmons.  She attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Girls High School.  She attended college and worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 45 years and prior to retirement, worked in the Division of Personnel & Recruiting.

Shirley was a member of Massoit Elks, Juanita Temple #31 in Cambridge, Massachusetts as Past Grand Daughter Ruler, Past Daughter Ruler and Past State President.  She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star Jurisdiction of Massachusetts, Inc. from November 30, 2002 to 2019.  Also, was a member of the Woodbine Association and served as Manager for many years.  Her church home was Ebenezer Baptist Church in Boston.  She loved to cook for family and friends, travel, bowl and attend cultural events (her favorite was the annual Juneteenth gathering) and looked forward to and enjoyed renting a cottage "Down the Cape" for Labor Day.

Shirley was a strong advocate on voting and volunteered her services at the polls and was a certified examiner for the state civil service exams for many years.

On February 1, 2024, Shirley Montgomery departed earthly life.  Remaining with fond memories are her son, Marshall Montgomery III, granddaughter, Mercedes Montgomery Lowe (Shunnasty), great-grandchildren, Shunnasty Lowe, Jr. and Morgan Lowe, granddaughters, Ebony Harris, LaToya Lee, and host of other grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She is survived by her brother, Clinton Jasey, Jr, nieces and nephews Pamela Allen (Eric), Robin Richardson Davis, Louis Richardson, Jr. (Paulette), Jacqueline Richardson (Kevin), BeLinda Mason (Derrick), Veronica Jasey and Erica Jasey.  She leaves behind many great nieces and great nephews, former husband, Marshall Montgomery, Jr., former brother-in-law, Louis Richardson, Sr. (Velma), her cat "Ginger" and dog nephew "Deuce" and a host of other relatives and beloved friends.
