Shirley Salome Smith (neé Hynds) was born on December 19, 1936 to the late Wellington A. Hynds, Sr and Letitia Hynds in Roatan, Honduras (Islas de la Bahia) Central America. The youngest girl of 9 children, she was affectionately nicknamed "Cooksie" by her family because of her love of cooking. Making some Amazing Honduran, Caribbean, Hispanic and American Foods. In 1968, Shirley immigrated to the United States of America and arrived to Boston, Massachusetts via a work program. She worked for the Reed Fam-ily (Pendennis Sr & Francine) of Beacon Hill and Vermont (dual residences) as a Live-In Domestic/Housekeeper for nearly 2 years. Shirley attended private school in Honduras. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, spending time with family & friends, traveling, loving GOD and spreading his word. Shirley accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at a young age and was an active member of First Church of God in Boston since immigrating to Boston in 1968. She was on the Usher Board, Sunday School Teacher, Devotional Leader, and Church Council. She received her Ministerial License in 2007 and became an active Minister at First Church of God. In 1969, Shirley married Nolan Smith in Puerto Cortes, Honduras. He soon joined her in Boston, Massachusetts and the couple enjoyed 55 years of marital bliss. She consistently and lovingly helped everyone she met including her family in the U.S. and Honduras. Shirley worked at Brigham and Women's Hospital in the Transportation Division until her retirement in 2003 with almost 30 years of ser-vice. Known as a Prayer Warrior, she prayed for everyone she encountered and would often be seen handing out religious tracks (in both English and Spanish) throughout the neighborhood. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, aforementioned, siblings and their spouses: Aldrich Hynds (Sylvie), Ianty Hynds Flowers (Teddy), Ruby Hynds McField (Calvin), Wellington "Junior" Hynds (Jerusha), Lula Hynds, Harry Hynds (Ariel) and Zola Hynds. She leaves the following to cherish her memories: her husband, Nolan Smith, son Mark, daughter Patricia, adopted daughter Monica, brother Mitchell Hynds (Helen), brother C. Alexander Hynds, brother in law Winston Smith, Sister in law Irma Smith and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and dear friends.
