Shirley Andrews, affectionately affectionately known as Avis of Dorchester, MA made her heavenly transition from this life on Friday, October 20th, 2023. Avis was born in Leesburg, Alabama to Homer and Mary Ann Driver.  As a child, Avis attended Cherokee County Public Schools. After completing her schooling and looking for more opportunities and a better quality of life, Avis, along with her sister, Mildred relocated to Boston, Massachusetts.

Upon arriving in Boston, Avis accepted a job working for a nice family as a homemaker. She thrived in her position and was rewarded by the family for her service and commitment to excellence. Looking for more opportunities, Avis began working with Channel Fish Company. She was a professional fish filleter and thrived in her position. She worked in that capacity for 23 years before retiring.

Avis had a strong faith, and just like with everything in her life when she got involved, she was all in. Avis joined Little Zion Church of God in Christ and accepted Christ in her life as her Lord and Savior.  There she began her journey in her ministry of help. Determined to have a thorough knowledge of the word of God, Avis enrolled in the James Darby School of the Bible, a three-year systematic study of the bible. In addition, she joined the Deaconess Board and helped with Sunday school. Avis proudly assisted wherever she was needed. She gave of her time, talents, and financial resources.

Avis had an array of hobbies. She loved to play cards with family and friends. She loved to sew and was often called on by her family for her expertise. In addition, she played Bingo for several years.  But one of her favorite things to do was spend time with her son Bobby, they were inseparable.

Avis loved children and was instrumental in raising some of her great grandnephews Rickey and Aaron, and other children in her community. Her patience, kindness, and compassion made others feel safe and loved. In her quiet reserved manner, she left an indelible imprint on so many lives of the people she came in contact with.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Mary Ann Driver, brothers, Willie (Bubba) Andrews (Boston, MA), Homer (June) Driver, Jr. (Rome, GA), Billy Fred Driver (Centre, AL), Randolph Driver (Gadsden, AL) and Lawrence (Carlos) Driver, Centre, AL.  Sisters, Annie Ruth Green (Ball Play, AL), Nell Hendricks (Ellisville, AL), Dorothy McCray (Gadsden, AL) Gloria Faye Driver (Gadsden, AL), Pauline Hendricks (Gadsden, AL) and  Mildred Driver (Boston, MA), with whom she will be buried.

Avis leaves to mourn her faithful son, Bobby Andrews, Dorchester, MA and a younger brother, Roy (Bo) Driver of Gadsden, AL.; A host of nieces and nephews with honorable mentions of nieces, Diondra Lanette, Janet, and Brenda. Also, special friends and loved ones to include Yasmine, Telathia, Peggy,   Andrea, Ms. Gladys and Tony.
