Sherma J Alexander's Obituary
Mrs. Sherma Jean Alexander was born on July 15, 1944, she was the only daughter and oldest of four children born to the late George Marion and Christine Copeland, brothers Ronald (Cope)(deceased), George Marion (Ricky) Jr (deceased) and Christopher Copeland. On October 21, 2024, Sherma passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
Sherma united in holy matrimony to the late Milton Alexander. The union was blessed with one son Milton L Alexander (deceased), and identical twin daughters Sonya J (deceased) and Tonya N Alexander.
Sherma and her daughter Tonya were baptized together in the faith at Good Shepherd Church of God in Christ under now Bishop Samuel Hogan. They later joined New Life Restoration Temple under the late Bishop Bernard Bragg and now under Pastor Joseph Davis where, she was an active servant until her worsening health conditions begin to progress
In Sherma's teen years, she attended Girl's High school and later attended 1 year at ITT Tech. In 1979 Sherma received a certification of completion as a counselor for Women's Inc that serviced battered and abused women. In 1993 Sherma received another certification of completion for Asset Management from ABCD. She retired from Macy Federated stores as an accountant in Finance department. After retirement she resided in Quincy and then Braintree Massachusetts, where she was devoted to many crafts that was shared with the community.
Sherma worked with Joan Casby and Candace Lowe for the "Caps for Kids" out of Brigham and women's Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Sherma donated over 100 to 150 handmade knitted and crochet hats, scarves and gloves with the help of "Knit One Purl Crew "staff. Knit One Purl Crew was started and overseed by Sherma for approximately 5 years. The classes were held weekly at the Braintree Village Community Center, where Sherma reside. The staff has also joined knitting forces with the Braintree Elder Service Center to knit and crochet hats, scarves, and prayer shawls for the veterans and homeless women. Both organizations have donated and distributed over 24,000 hats, scarves, mittens, blankets, or other warm items. Even though she was on fixed income she faithfully sewed monetary donation to other organizations such as the paralyzed veterans of America and the Food bank.
In Sherma's spare time, she loved to cross stitch beautiful pictures that once completed she brought the necessary items to frame and hung in her house or gave to loved ones. Some family members considered her the family historian.
Sherma leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Tonya N Alexander and her youngest brother Christopher L Copeland, half-sister Patricia Copeland (Georgia), 2 nieces, 2 nephews, and a host of cousins, family and friends.
