Seleata E. Emery, age 81 passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on September 30, 2024 in Roxbury, MA. She was born on October 3,1942 in Brighton, Alabama to her loving parents Clara B. Nelson and Isaac Williams. Later, she was raised with the love and assistance of her stepfather, Jesse Lee Nelson. Seleata was cherished by her youngest sister, Anna Bennett and an abundance of love from her aunts Helen Dunn and Dorothy Cole, Grace Means, Gloria Young, her doting uncle, Raymond Means adored their niece.

Seleata E. Emery relocated to Boston, MA, at the tender age of nine with her mother and sister, Anna Bennett. Her transformative years led her to attend an all girls school in Roxbury, MA. She then later attended Middlesex College and began a career as a Social Worker. She dedicated over a decade of her professional life to teaching at the Bromley Heath Head Start program in Jamaica Plain, MA. Seleata's love for helping others spanned throughout her life as she dedicated countless hours to serving others.

Seleata was a dedicated member of Mount Calvary Church of America, led by the late Bishop Nelly C. Yarborough. She was part of the usher board, sang in the choir, and co-chaired a food pantry for several years, where she fed those in need. Years later, Seleata generously volunteered her time serving as the head chef for the Citywide Outreach Ministry, preparing soup weekly for the city's homeless population.

Seleata is survived by her loving husband Gilbert Emery, Sr. Her children Larry L. Nelson of Boston, Clara B. Smith of Kissimmee, FL, Carolyn B. (Jeffery) Grant of Boston, Lola C. Seck, of Kissimmee, FL, Natalie L. (Charles) Hinds of Boston. Two daughters-in-law, Anil Lampkin and Elmazine DePeiza-Nelson both of Boston; her three bonus children: Gilbert Emery Jr., Derrick Emery, and Leslie Emery all of Bermuda. Seleata is preceded in death by her only sister, Anna Bennett. Her children: Cordell J. Lampkin, Seleata E. Lampkin, and Ronald M. Nelson. Her grandson, Damien Javin Nelson and her great-grandson, Jeremiah Sotunbo.

Seleata was affectionately known by her grandchildren as "Mimi" and "Grandma". She adored her grandchildren deeply, ensuring each one felt her unmatched love. She affectionately assigned a unique nickname to each of her grandchildren, a name exclusively used within the family. She devoted a significant amount of time to instilling family values rooted in love. Seleata remained constant in the lives of her grandchildren until her last breath.

Family was always her top priority, and she welcomed many extended loved ones into her heart including her Goddaughters, Catherine Yvonne Jones and Michelle Jones, her best friend of 70 years, Mamie Jo Jones, and her travel partner and neighbor, Roberta Williams, and countless friends and family. Her love reached beyond the United States to Bermuda to include her loving in-laws Shirley Dill, Dorothy Middleton, Carole Emery, Wendy Emery and Betty Nusum.
