Ruden Wells, lovingly known as "Shugg," was a remarkable wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who graced our lives with her warmth and kindness until her passing on Tuesday, January 14th, 2025. Born in Dublin, Georgia, on November 22, 1934, to Zodus and Lucille Bouyer, Shugg possessed a radiant spirit that illuminated every space she entered. Her gentle sweetness and nurturing nature made her a cherished presence, embodying the essence of love and compassion for all who knew her.

In 1950, at the tender age of 16, Ruden embarked on a transformative journey, leaving her rural Georgia home with her young son, Larry Bouyer. After a brief stay with her Aunt Lilly in Philadelphia, she found her new home in Boston, Massachusetts, alongside her Aunt Ollie and Uncle Jim. It wasn't long before the rest of her family joined her, each member building a brighter future, united by Shugg's unwavering love and support.

Shugg's life revolved around family, which was the very heart of her existence. Her home was a sanctuary for all who sought comfort and connection. She exemplified the true meaning of togetherness, hosting countless family gatherings that forged irreplaceable bonds and created beautiful memories. From her famous Fish Fry Fridays to the delectable sweet potato pies she baked during the holidays, every celebration was infused with love, laughter, and joy. The warmth she extended to each family member was a testament to her nurturing spirit, making everyone feel cherished and special.

Shugg's love for her late husband, James Murphy, was a cornerstone of her life. Married for over 30 years, their bond, woven with deep affection, shared laughter, and music. Together, they celebrated life, cherishing every moment and creating memories that will forever be treasured.

As the matriarch of her family, Shugg was strong, courageous, and unwavering. Her presence provided comfort and strength to those around her, leaving a legacy of love and resilience that will forever echo in our hearts. For 25 years, Ruden dedicated herself to the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Jamaica Plain, earning high praise for her commitment and service. She was beloved by both staff and patients, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.

Ruden will be deeply missed as she reunites with her beloved son, Larry Bouyer, and three cherished grandchildren: Jason Hardmen, Andre Zene, and Jerome Wells Jr. She is survived by her devoted children: Gloria Bouyer, Louise Bouyer, Anthony Wells, Gregory Wells, Jerome Wells, Theresa Wells, daughter-in-law Lisa Guscott Wells, Arlisa Bennett. Ruden also leaves behind her adored grandchildren: Marlon Granger, Jahmal Bouyer, Janei Bouyer, Kwamaine Wells, Mocha Wells, Rasheed Wells (Shelby), Samantha Wells, Dupree Bouyer, Shamari Garrison, and Lonsdale Garrison, along with seven great-grandchildren. Her sister, Bessie Banks, as well as numerous cousins and countless friends, will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Words fall short of capturing the immense love and respect we hold for Shugg, nor can they convey the significant void her departure creates. She was, and will always be, a phenomenal woman whose spirit will continue to inspire us all. Rest in peace, our dear Shugg. Your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
