Dr. Royal C. Tucker (84) of Naples, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on April 11, 2025. Royal was born in Boston's South End on July 20, 1940, the only child of Royal J. Tucker of Boston, and Claudia O. Tucker of Henderson, N.C., both deceased.  Royal grew up on Dilworth St. surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins.  He was raised and nurtured by his close-knit extended family and neighbors (as were all the kids). He tended to be on the serious side, but had an amazing sense of humor.

Royal was educated in the Boston Public Schools, and enjoyed history and sports—particularly track and field.  He went on to get his BA (Magna Cum Laude); and then went to Northeastern University where he was the recipient of the Martin Luther King Fellowship ('68-'70); and in 1995 Royal completed his Doctoral Degree at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA.

Dr. Royal Tucker was a Tenured Full Professor before he retired from Roxbury Community College (1986-2002), in Roxbury, MA. He transferred from U. Mass. Boston to RCC and was assigned to the Social Science Department where he taught U.S. History, Afro-American History and General Psychology. Dr. Tucker was initially on loan from U. Mass. Boston ('82-'83), and was an Associate Professor at RCC from 1983-1986. Dr. Royal Tucker was always proud of the fact that he was a Multiple Year Honoree in "Who's Who Among America's Teacher" because of his students' nominations. (While only 5% are honored in each edition, only 2% are included in more than one edition.) After completing his Masters Degree, he was chosen to be Director of Special Admissions 1970-1982. Moderator and Associate Producer of "The Drum" on TV 38, Brighton, MA (1970-74), a Public Affairs show for the Black Community. Royal also worked for SNAP as a Recreational Supervisor '67-69 and Norfolk House as a Counselor '64-'67.

Dr. Royal C. Tucker was a member of Phi Theta Kappa since 1997.

Royal enjoyed jogging, walking, biking and working out. He encouraged others to stay in shape because it would pay off as they aged. He especially enjoyed academic research and politics. He also worked for Mel King in his mayoral bid.  Throughout his life, Royal always was supportive of his community in whatever ways he deemed necessary.

He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 45 years, Dolores Lombré-Tucker, and his stepson, William L. Mosley, and his cousins, Claudette Parks, William Parks, Cynthia Reed and Christine Hardmon.

A Celebration of Life will be held in January 2026 in Naples, Florida (date TBA). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Museum of Afro-American History and Culture in Washington, DC of which Dr. Royal Tucker was a Founder.

Dr. Royal C. Tucker will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him.  He was a very 'unique and special guy' that God only puts a few on the planet, at any given time, to inspire the rest of us to be the best we can be!
