Paul Sherman Quarles was born October 17, 1942, in Richmond, Virginia and entered eternal rest on December 9, 2023, at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Leroy Massie Quarles, Sr., and Myrtle Louise Coleman Quarles.

Paul received his education and graduated from the Richmond, Virginia Public School system. His favorite subject in school was mathematics. His love for mathematics would follow him from Richmond to Boston and we believe this helped him with one of his favorite past times, which was playing the lottery. If you knew Paul, you knew he didn't miss an opportunity to play his numbers and he was extremely good at it. Paul was smart and picked up things quickly even in his later years. Just recently Paul started to learn a little sign language from his nephew Dylan and that's how they would communicate with one another.

During his early years in Richmond, Virginia on the weekends and in the summer, Paul would work on the neighborhood Church Hill Grocery on Wheels Truck, which was owned by Mr. Whyte, who was a family friend. This truck went to the different communities in the area selling chickens and fresh produce. In the summer Paul was also responsible for helping his father keep up the lawn at their 28th Street home, where he grew up.

Many family vacations were spent in Freeman, Virginia. There he would get to enjoy his Aunt Do-I's hamburgers and gravy. Also, during these visits Paul got to admire and be admired by several ladies in the community, but that would be expected as he was a handsome guy.

Leroy Massie Quarles, Sr., and Myrtle Louise Coleman Quarles had a team of five, three boys and two girls. Paul was the baby boy of the bunch and was considered a "Mama's Boy," perhaps this was due to him staying with his mom the longest. Paul picked up a lot from his mom; cooking, sewing, ironing and other household chores, which stuck with him throughout his years. This made him very particular on how he kept his own home and how he presented himself. Paul was the silent one of the siblings and very protective of them all, especially when it came to his baby sister, Florence.

Paul eventually moved to Boston, Massachusetts and stayed with his eldest brother, Leroy Quarles, Jr. until he could get on his feet. He worked at Honeywell, Digital Equipment Corporation and drove taxis. Paul loved to cook meals, even though he preferred to eat cakes, cookies, and all things sweet with his black coffee, which was his FAVORITE drink. He also enjoyed watching his soap opera's, Judge Judy, game shows and sports. Paul loved to have a good time, listen to music, dance and wanted everyone around him to have fun.

Paul was not only loved by his family, but also his community. He lived on Massachusetts Avenue for over 20 years and developed a lot of great friendships, one being Ms. Linda Roberts. He took care of them, and they took care of him.

Paul was preceded in death by the loves of his life, his father, Leroy Massie Quarles Sr., his "Mama" as he would lovingly call her, Myrtle Louise Coleman Quarles, his older brothers, Leroy Quarles, Jr., and Charles Clinton Quarles; and his longtime girlfriend, Ruth Johnson.

Paul leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Demetrius Quarles and Paul Quarles; four grandchildren, Tachani Quarles, Jenay Quarles, Alyssa Quarles, Demetrius Quarles, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Malik Knight & Amor Heredia; sisters, Audrey Stith of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Florence Huffman (Eugene) of Sharon, Massachusetts; Sister-in-Law, Madrienne Joell Quarles of Brooklyn, New York; and one aunt, Henrietta Coleman of Freeman, Virginia, and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Paul Sherman Quarles will be missed, but he will be forever LOVED, HONORED and RESPECTED.
