Obituary

Patricia D. Copney was born on June 23,1953 to the late James & Ellen Dixon in Boston Massachusetts. On December 20,2025 after a brief illness, Pat earned her wings when God called her home.

Pat received her education through the Boston Public School systems and attended the Berea SDA Academy and later Fisher Junior College.

Pat loved spending time at family functions and gatherings with friends laughing and dancing. Her favorite pastimes were reading, bowling and bicycling. She loved watching Martin, football and the news, playing her daily numbers and talking on the phone daily with her favorite cousin Joyce Person and best friend Rene Dejesus.

Pat was very stubborn, she stood strong in her beliefs, if she did not like something you were going to hear about it. Not a fan of technology she was old school to the core, never having an email address and finally purchasing a cell phone a few years ago.

Pat's greatest achievement was on April 16,1980 when she gave birth to her only son Charles Copney, Jr. Called Little Charles, he was the absolute love of her life. On April 20th 1991 Little Charles was tragically murdered while playing outside of their home becoming the youngest murder victim ever killed in Boston. Charles's murder broke Pat, but she turned her anger and devastation into a purpose and became an reluctant activist. Pat attended and spoke at rallies fighting for justice for her baby boy and other murdered children. The House of Representatives Recognized Pat's tenacious battle to assure the loss of her one and only child would not be in in vain. On December 31,1991, Pat secured passage of the Copney-Grant bill, which altered the juvenile-system in Massachusetts, ensuring teens who commit murder would be charged as adults.

For over 20 years Pat was court officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She served at the Roxbury District Court and loved what she did. She was a loyal and dedicated servant who retired just over a year ago. Pat is preceded in death by her parents James & Ellen Dixson, her late Ex husband Charles Copney Sr., her beloved son "Little Charles" Copney,

Pat leaves to morn and remember her love and legacy, her devoted first cousin Joyce Person, cousin Shirley Tyler, Best friend Rene Dejesus, The Dixon, Cox, Jackson, Taylor, Dejesus Families, and a host of relatives, friends and co-workers.
