Miriam Chase Manning peacefully departed this life on Friday, May 2, 2025, after a full and active life. She was born on July 28, 1924, in New York City to Walter and Keturah (Highland) Chase.

Miriam met her future husband, Charles Manning, in New York. Together, they later relocated to Boston, with sons, Richard and Charles, in pursuit of career opportunities and a better life for their growing family.

From her parents, Miriam inherited a strong work ethic and a deep, enduring faith in God. Her professional journey included work as a baker and seamstress before she found her true calling in early childhood education. She began her career at the Columbia Point Day Care Center, part of Associated Day Care Services. Over 30 years, she rose from social worker to become the Day Care Center Director.

After retiring from Associated, Miriam volunteered over 27 years for Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) as a Foster Grandparent at their Head Start Center in Dorchester. She retired, finally, at the remarkable age of 95.

That same year, she also stepped back from her decades-long service to the City of Boston Elections Department, where she held a variety of roles, eventually serving as a Warden. Miriam was known as an efficient yet compassionate leader—beloved by her colleagues, parents, and especially the countless children who fondly called her "Grandma."

Miriam was a faithful member of Grace and Hope and Mission for over 50 years and regularly attended Charles Street AME Church, where she particularly enjoyed participating in weekly Bible study.

Above all, Miriam was a devoted and loving mother to her five children and a cherished presence in the lives of her grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday and marked every special occasion with thoughtful, often handmade gifts. Her home was a warm and welcoming hub for many joyous family gatherings.

She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Keturah Chase; her sister, Elaine Highland; her brother and sister-in-love, Thomas and Alberta Chase; her beloved son, Charles "Chuckie" Manning; and her granddaughter, Katrice Paulding.

She leaves to mourn her children: Richard Chase (Marilyn), Steven Manning, Loretta Paulding (Russell), and Sharon Manning; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of extended family, dear friends, and the thousands of children whose lives she touched through her life's work.

Rest in eternal peace, Miriam. You will forever remain in our hearts.
