Obituary

On February 27, 2024, Maxine Heard transitioned from this life surrounded by her family in Augusta, ME.  She was born on October 1,1945 in Stratford, CT to the late Elsie and Mack Heard.

After receiving her education from Stratford Public Schools in Stratford, CT, she relocated to MA.  For over 25 years, she was employed at General Electric in Lynn, MA.

Maxine accepted Christ at a young age at the First Baptist Church of Stratford in Stratford, CT.  After looking for a church home in MA, she joined Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop John M. Borders, III.  As a member of Morning Star Baptist Church, she served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board and the Shawl Ministry.

Maxine enjoyed holiday cooking, baking, crocheting and creating crosses on Palm Sunday from the palm leaves.  She was famous for her banana cake and the hundreds of hats and scarves that kept the family warm during winter months.  Creating the Palm Crosses was a special craft that she learned as a little girl and continued into her adulthood.  Even now, you can find these crosses in the homes of many family members and friends.

Maxine is survived by her son, David Charles Heard (Tammy Johnson) of Augusta, ME; grandsons:  Wendell Robert Heard of Falmouth, VA and Devon Troy Heard, Sr. of Lynn, MA; granddaughters: Nicole Michelle Heard of Lynn, MA, Devena Nicole Heard of Mesa, AZ and Dania Michelle Heard of Revere, MA; great-grandchildren:  Devon Troy Heard, Jr. and Griz Wendell Watson of Lynn, MA; one brother:  David Heard of Bridgeport, CT; two sisters: Solange Bell (David) of Stoughton, MA and Ursula Heard of Phoenix, AZ; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was predeceased by her son, Wendell Heard, Sr.; her daughter, Nicole Heard; three sisters:  Roxanne Adams, Rev. Donna Heard and Regina Manns and two brothers:  Richard Heard and Milton Heard.
