Margaret M. Romain was born on June 10, 1948, in St. James, Trinidad, and entered peace on September 29th, 2023. Maggie was the eldest of eight children to the late Rita and Llewelyn Stephen. Margaret, affectionately known by her friends and family as "Maurica" or "Maggie" accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Mary's Church in Trinidad. Growing up, Margaret attended the Mucurapo Girls RC school until she graduated in 1964. Years later, her family began to immigrate to the United States. Margaret arrived in Boston to join her family in 1978 along with her daughter, Tracy.

A lifelong caretaker and philanthropist, Margaret cared for many of all ages. She used her instinctive skills to care for the elderly at Marion Manor nursing home in Boston shortly after her arrival. Later on, Margaret went on to have her second child, Maurice. Margaret dedicated her life to caring for children in the foster system who were affected by the drug epidemic of the 1980-1990's and later on adopted 3 additional kids as her own: Patrick, Nicole and Shantae.

In the early 1990's, Margaret settled into a career as a food service technician with Boston Public schools. During that time, she worked at the Charles H. Taylor school in Dorchester, and also volunteered to join Mayor Menino in his initiative to build the inner-city youth of Boston in the 1990's. Margaret was also a childcare provider. Maggie made herself available to all those who were in need. Even while struggling with her own family, she sacrificed with a willing heart to feed dozens.

Maggie expressed her love in many ways; however, she will be most remembered by the ways she blessed her family through her trini-grown culinary skills. Known as the "Roti Queen", some of her most memorable dishes include, roti, buss up shut, bake and saltfish or shark, Sorrell, and sweet bread. There was nothing like Aunty Maggie's sweet bread and sorrel on Christmas morning to bring comfort and connection to the family.

Later in life, Margaret began working in her residence as a food service technician where she oversaw the daily food operations and event planning for the elderly. She also went on to chair the residential association. A job that initially started as a volunteer opportunity for her soon became the start of a new career later in life. Years later, Maggie became ill and eventually took a leave from work.

Margaret will be most remembered for her generous and giving spirit. Although she came from humble beginnings, she remained a faithful giver, and servant to God. Her family and loved ones will forever cherish memories of her service, humor, and compassion, as well as her love for cooking, Kenny G, Tyler Perry movies and African movies. Maggie is survived by her siblings: Francis Stephen, Yolanda Stephen, Terrence Stephen, Donald Stephen, Keren Stephen, Steve Steven and Stephanie Stephen. She leaves her five children: Tracy, Maurice, Patrick, Nicole and Shantae, eight grandchildren, great grandchildren, former foster children, nieces, nephews, family and friends in Christ to cherish her memory and continue her legacy of fellowship, giving and love.
