With deep love and sorrow, we share the passing of Livvie "Michelle" Lopez, beloved wife, mother, sister, friend, and First Lady, who left this world on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at age 66. Michelle faced Multiple Sclerosis (MS) with remarkable courage and grace over the past 45 years. She mastered MS with strength, continuing to bring light, love, and laughter to those around her. Her resilience and quiet determination were an inspiration to all who knew her. Surrounded by love, Michelle departed peacefully, leaving a legacy of warmth and cherished memories.
Livvie (Michelle) was born on March 16, 1959, to Ruth Ellen Gregory and Joseph Hardmond. She was lovingly raised by her mother and Richard Gregory, who became a steady presence in her life. From early on, Michelle was surrounded by love, guidance, and a strong sense of family. A native Bostonian, Michelle spent many memorable summers in Richmond, Virginia, and Raleigh, North Carolina. Those summers were filled with outdoor adventures, good food, and quality time with family. These experiences left a lasting imprint and helped shape the person she would become, known for humor, bravery, and authenticity.
On June 22, 1989, Michelle married the love of her life, Cornelio Lopez. Their story began in a place of faith introduced by mutual friends during a Bible study, and from that moment on, their bond grew deeper, grounded in mutual respect, unwavering support, and a shared love for God. Michelle and Cornelio built more than just a life together — they built a ministry. Their home on Williams Street became a sanctuary, the birthplace of Life Changing Evangelistic Ministries, a church rooted in compassion, healing, and hope. What began in their living room would later move to its new home on Columbia Road, and the spirit remained the same: one of community, worship, and transformation. Michelle was never one to seek recognition, but her faith and quiet strength left a lasting impact. Every Sunday morning, she faithfully climbed five flights of stairs to attend Life-Changing Evangelistic Ministries, where Cornelio served as pastor alongside Assistant Pastor Ephiteo Evans. No matter the weather or the weight of the week, Michelle showed up — not just physically, but with her whole heart. Her dedication to the Lord and her church family is a reflection of who she truly was: steadfast, joyful, and full of grace.
Michelle and Cornelio Lopez's 36 years of marriage were a living testament to enduring love, unwavering support, and partnership. Through every season of life, they stood by each other with grace and strength, always lifting one another up. Together, they raised four God-fearing children: Michael Anthony, Yusef Galloway, Michaiah Lopez, and Brenda Chaplin. And, of course, Cornelio Corico Lopez (CC), Cornelio's biological son, whom Michelle embraced and loved as her own.
Michelle was a woman of many gifts. She began her career as a Dental Assistant, always caring and attentive, but her true essence was found in how she lived — with a sharp wit, a quick smile, and a passion for fashion. Beyond her career, Michelle found purpose in faith, family, and community. She had a remarkable ability to speak life into others, always offering encouragement and support. Her presence was a source of comfort and strength to all who knew her, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she touched.
Michelle is lovingly remembered by husband, Cornelio Lopez of Boston, MA; father, Joseph Harmond of Georgia; children, Michael Anthony, Yusef Galloway, Michaiah Lopez, Brenda Chaplin and CC Lopez; siblings, Richard Gregory, Kenneth Gregory, Troy Galloway, and Dolores Hardmond; aunt, Joyce Coleman; uncle, Curtis Davis, as well as several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and countless friends.
She now rests in eternal peace, reunited with those who went before her, including her beloved mother, Ruth Ellen Gregory (Toosie), her cherished grandmother, Ruth Ella Davis (Mama), and Richard Gregory (Daddy Beau).
