Joshua “Josh” William Henry Roberts, a longtime resident of Hyde Park, MA, passed away at the age of 89 on August 21, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents Ida Lee (born Gatling) and Columbus Roberts, his daughter Yvette Roberts, four brothers, Herbert Roberts, Cornelius Roberts, John Roberts, Columbus Roberts Jr. and three sisters, Ella Simmons, Catherine Smith, and Barbara Jones. He has three surviving siblings, Ida Mae Armstead, Mary Smith, and Eddie Lee ‘Dinah’ Roberts all from Virginia Beach, VA. Joshua was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he met and married his beloved wife, Gracie M. Roberts (born Sutton) in 1962. Just four months ago, Josh’s beloved wife of 64 years, Gracie Roberts passed away. The family takes great comfort in knowing that his heavy heart is finally lightened, and that he has been reunited with the love of his life. Joshua is survived by three children, son, Christopher “Tracey”, two surviving daughters, Carlene and Felicia Roberts all from Boston MA. Josh has eight grandchildren, Dontay, Tory, Khaaliqa, Jahcari, Jahloni, Jahmir and Yvette Roberts all from Boston, Marquis Reese “Megan” and two great grandchildren, Avery and Julian Reese, in Texas. Josh has one brother-in-law, Deacon Clinton Sutton from Sharon, MA and one cousin-in-law, James Earl Cooper,Boston,MA and a host of nieces and nephews. Joshua graduated in 1958 from Princess Anne County Training high school and later attended mechanic school. Joshua was a mason of the Grand Chapter of Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Syria 31, in Boston, MA which he participated in for over 50 years. Joshua lived in Virginia before relocating to Boston, Massachusetts with his beloved wife, Gracie. He started a new life in Boston working for Blue Hill Spring Water, General Dynamics and the Veteran Hospital in Jamaica Plain, MA, where he worked in housekeeping well into his seventies until he retired. Joshua joined Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in the eighties and was a member of the Men of Faith. He was a faithful member until August 16. He enjoyed live streaming church service, attending church meetings, and church day trips. Joshua was a loving, dedicated and funny husband, dad, grandad, uncle, brother and friend. He loved his family, church, shed, caps, van, and working in the yard of his home. He was a good cook, and he loved cooking his favorite dishes. He really shined when he was taking care of his wife and family. He enjoyed gardening, making repairs on his house, van and cooking his fried porgies. He was a quiet man of few words. He loved telling jokes, talking about his different jobs, children, grandchildren, his sisters, his brother, his work buddies, Al Sharpton and CNN.
