Obituary

John Henry Gatewood of Stoughton, Mass took his place among the stars on October 22, 2023 at his home.

John was born on January 16,1952 to Mr. Clinton and Mrs. Katie Mae Gatewood in the city of Coila, Mississippi. He was the second oldest of five children.

John accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Nebo CME Church in Blackhawk Mississippi. He later joined Bethel Baptist Church in Roxbury, Massachusetts until his untimely passing.

John attended School at Marshall High in Carrollton, Mississippi.  There he played Football as a linebacker and Baseball as a catcher.  That is also where he met Rosa. John and Rosa entered matrimony in 1971 and relocated to Boston Mass.

John had 3 children, a daughter Faye Gatewood-Thompson of South Yarmouth, Mass with Rosa Gatewood and two sons, John Gatewood Jr. of Mattapan Mass with his mother Willie (Jo) Mangrum and Lafronzo Johnson (Deceased) of Chicago.

John had 3 grandchildren, Theresa Dobbins, Tamika Dobbins of Rockford IL. and Dr. Corey Gatewood of Sacramento CA.

John graduated from New England Tractor Trailer Training School in Mass, where he received his CDL License for Commercial Vehicle Operation. John then went on to work in construction for J.F. White Construction Company, Boston until retiring after many years. His next venture was working at Baily Laundromat in Roxbury as the Operations Manager.

John is proceeded in death by his parents Clinton and Katie Mae Gatewood, brother Clinton Gatewood Jr., son Lafronzo Johnson and his grandmother Della Jordon. He is survived by his wife Rosa Gatewood, sister Gloria Gatewood, brothers Lynn Gatewood and David Gatewood (Beverly Gatewood), sister in-laws Annie Mae Gatewood and Mary Liddell, daughter Faye Gatewood-Thompson (David Thompson Sr.), son John Gatewood Jr., 3 grandchildren Theresa Dobbins, Tamika Dobbins, and Dr. Corey Gatewood (Nicole Gatewood), 3 aunts Elmira Ellis, Oralee Thomas, and Rosalie Phillips. John also had a host of nieces, nephews and friends who love him dearly.
