Janet was born on July 10th, 1948, in Boston, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Gertrude Reed and Stephen N. Ellis. She is predeceased by sibling Stephen N. Ellis Jr.

Janet attended Boston Public Schools and attended Girls Trade School where she graduated in the year 1966, In the year 1969 her son Donyale Ellis was born.

After working for the New England Merchants Bank for many years she decided to change careers and began working for the Boston Public Schools.

Janet was a strong black woman who believed in speaking her mind. She was also a very kind person who would give someone the shirt off of her back.  She was a single mother who raised a son to be strong and independent.

On March 7, 2024, she closed her eyes and went with the angels.

She leaves to mourn her son Donyale Ellis, his wife Alicia L. Ellis. Her sisters Jacqueline Ellis, Joann Reed, one granddaughter Jalessa Ellis. Her nephews, Anthony John Price, Brandon Marquis Price and Stephen Stallings. Her niece Andrea Stallings and a host of other relatives and friends.
