James W. Washington Sr., 55, of Boston, Massachusetts, peacefully entered eternal rest on April 23, 2026.

James was born on September 8, 1970, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Margean Washington White. He was lovingly raised in part by his stepfather, Willie J. White of Walterboro, South Carolina. During his early years, James lived in both Boston and Connecticut before settling in South Carolina, where he spent much of his childhood. At the age of 18, he returned to Boston, where he was welcomed into the home of his devoted aunts, Delores Armstead, Ellaree Sanders, and Marilyn Washington, who played an important role in his life.

He was the second oldest of four siblings: Barbara White Gray, Anika Y. White Rogers, and Willie J. White (Melanie), with whom he shared a lifelong bond.

James received his education through Boston Public Schools, Connecticut Public Schools, and Walterboro Public Schools. He later went on to work for Harvard Medical, MassHealth, and Saugus Rehabilitation Center where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.

A man of passion and purpose, James devoted over 13 years to mentoring youth through basketball. As a co-founder and coach of the Suns of New England 13U team, he poured his heart into developing young athletes both on and off the court. To many, he was more than a coach—he was a mentor, a role model, and a father figure. He believed in fairness, discipline, and opportunity, ensuring that every young man he encountered had a chance to grow, compete, and succeed. His influence extended far beyond the game, leaving a lasting legacy in the lives of those he guided.

James leaves to cherish his precious memory his beloved children and bonus children: James W. Washington Jr., Semaj Washington, Briana J. Cooper (Joshua), Loquia Furtado, Kynita Furtado, Tylea Small, Andre White  (Dudley), SharDreMarco Carter, Lunden Williams, and Cairo Tukes, all of Boston, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind 12 cherished grandchildren, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

James will be remembered for his strength, his generosity, his unwavering love for family, and his commitment to uplifting others.
