James Edward Davis (Slick) was born on August 24, 1942, in Mecklenburg, Virginia, to the late James G. and Ann Lee Davis of South Hill, Virginia. He was the second of ten children raised in a loving, tight-knit family that instilled in him a strong sense of values. He departed this life peacefully at home in his sleep on November 2, 2024.

James was known for his kindness and willingness to help others, whether independently or through his father's volunteer efforts. He went the extra mile for strangers, demonstrating remarkable compassion to all he met.

He met his late wife, Vinnie Marie Davis, driving the school bus part-time that she rode on. They married on September 23, 1961, and soon welcomed their first child, a daughter Pannie. In 1962, James and Vinnie relocated to Boston. During their 59 years of marriage they were blessed with 5 children.

In 1992 he retired from Burtman Iron Works in Readville, MA, after 30 years employment.  He later worked at Home Depot, where his precision in the Wood Department earned admiration from colleagues and customers. Many customers would wait for his return from days off to purchase what they needed, knowing his skill and dedication. Whether building a retaining wall or taking down a tree, James always approached each job with expertise and care.

As a devoted husband, father, and friend, James provided unwavering support but was a firm disciplinarian. Whenever he was on the road, he would call home for a report from Vinnie. If you were called to the phone, you knew you were in big trouble when he returned! His commitment to family and exceptional skills left lasting impressions on his children and relatives.

He was an avid fisherman and gardener for many years and loved to build things! If you had something that needed to be put together or built, he would be the first one there to help!

James E. Davis is survived by four children: Pannie Davis, Kevin Davis (Bevette), Shawn Davis, and Keith Davis (Theresa). He is also survived by his siblings: Arthur Davis (Daisy), Avonne Perry, Yvonne Sallie, and Julia Mae (cousin "like a sister"), as well as his loving mother-in-law, Viola Boyd; sister-in-law, Brenda Boyd; and brother-in-law, Milton Boyd. James was deeply loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Boo Boo." He leaves behind twelve grandchildren: Taliyah, Robert, Khamyle, Kyle, Brittany, Chianne, Britany, Dylan, Timothy Jr., Taylor, Jahceylynne, and James II; and twelve great-grandchildren: Lariah, Khayden, Jadrian, Kai, Safreya, Khalil, Zariya, Leilani, Drealyn, Aycen, Avion, and Jayde, along with a host of dedicated family and friends. James was preceded in death by his siblings: Matthew L. Davis (Ruth), Alice Perkins (Ezekiel), Barbara Ann Anderson, Robert S. Davis (Mary), Delores Davis, and Clara Mae Davis. He was also predeceased by two sons, Timothy Mabry (Katrina) and James Alan Davis (Elaine).

James will forever be cherished by his loved ones.
