Hinton was born on December 15, 1941, to John and Joanna McLean. He grew up in Lillington, North Carolina, and attended Fayetteville State University until he moved to Boston.

Sadly, his parents, sister Glennie (Kitty), and four brothers, John Jr, Jack, Milton, and Joe Lain, passed away before him.

In 1962, he married Geneva Rouse (Jo-Ann), who has also passed away. They had two children, Hinton Jr. and Corey, who preceded him in death.

In the early 1980s, he returned to college, and he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from Northeastern University in 1984.

Hinton spent his career at Polaroid's Camera/ Film Division as a Mechanist until his retirement. His passion for photography enabled him to capture countless instant memories over the years. Later, he began a second career and retired from Raytheon's Security Department.

Hinton was actively involved in the church and served on the Stewart Board at The Historic Charles Street AME Church for many years.

Hinton transitioned on October 28, 2023, at his home in Norwood.

He is survived by his brother, Delain McLean of Bunnlevel, NC. He also leaves behind his nephews: Connie McLean (Elaine) of Bunnlevel, NC, Darrin McLean of High Point, NC, Harold McLean of Washington, DC, and Charles Ross of Broadway, NC. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters-in-law, Edna McLean of Morrisville, PA, Addie McLean of Bunnlevel, NC, and his nieces: Milta McLean-Dennis of Williamsburg, VA, Sybil McLean of Apex, NC, and Mittie McLean of Morrisville, PA.

He is also survived by his long-time confidant, Elta Garrett of Boston, MA, whom he met in 1972, and her son, Denton Garrett (Taunya) of Milton, MA, and those who called him "Poppa," Denton Jr, Madison, Teanna, and Tyara.

Hinton also leaves a host of extended family members and friends. He was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
