Hazel Marie Williams Maxwell

April 24, 1944 – December 6, 2023

Hazel Marie Williams Maxwell was born in Sardis, Georgia on April 24, 1944, the eldest daughter of Viola Williams Hall.

She relocated to Massachusetts in the early 1960s, where she worked various jobs until she landed at MASCO as a telephone operator, connecting doctors and hospitals in the Longwood area. She retired  from MASCO after 17 years.  She then became a foster parent and later an adult caregiver. Hazel even tried her hand at entrepreneurship with her own in-home childcare center.

Hazel was baptized at the Church of Christ in Roxbury after a gospel meeting conducted by Dr. Richard Barclay more than 30 years ago and served faithfully in various ministries, especially the nursery and visitation ministries.

Throughout her life Hazel was always a caregiver and nurturer for young and old, black or white, family or friend. Her giving and kind spirit are what everyone remembers about her, along with her sense of humor and her cooking skills.

While she battled Alzheimer's for 8 years, the words she would consistently say were: "Oh Lord," "Amen," and "Baby," which reflected her love of God, the Bible and children.

Hazel was predeceased by her son, Rendell Lewis Maxwell. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Walter Ray Maxwell, their daughter, Wendy; grandson, Marquell Maxwell (Rendell); and great granddaughter, Rylee Renee; two siblings, Gloria Hall and Edward Ingram; several in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family, and friends. A special thank you to her niece, Sis. Tracie Nicole Hall, for her visits and personal care.
