In Loving Memory of Gracia Patricia Mitchell
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Gracia (Grace) P. Mitchell who departed from this world on February 7, 2024, at 73 years old. A wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Grace was a beacon of strength, resilience, and love, cherished by those who knew her.
Born on November 17, 1950, in St. Michael, Barbados, Grace faced adversity from a youthful age, losing her own mother early in life. With her siblings, she weathered numerous storms, assuming roles of caregiver and provider, shouldering responsibilities far beyond her years.
Grace was the devoted wife of Jeffrey A. Mitchell, with whom she shared many years of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Together, they built a life grounded in personal sacrifice and endurance after migrating to the United States in 1980.
As a mother, Grace was the epitome of selflessness and devotion. She was blessed with four wonderful children: Sophia G. Holder, Lisa K. McCall, Twanisha M. Johnson, and James M. Mitchell. Grace poured her heart and soul into raising her children, imparting upon them the values of family, integrity, and hard work. Her love knew no bounds. To her children, she was consistently there to offer prayer and faith (always first), guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love.
Grace was also a doting grandmother who adored her grandchildren (including her four-legged grands). She cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was cooking, baking, reading, playing games, or simply sharing stories and laughter. Her love and wisdom will be treasured by her grandchildren.
Grace's memory will be forever cherished by her loving family and friends. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Grace will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest in peace knowing that her legacy of resilience, love, kindness, and compassion will continue to illuminate rightly in the lives of those she touched.
Go forward, Grace, knowing that your light shines on!
In her honor, the family kindly requests that donations be made to one of Grace's favorite charities:
