George Searcy
Jr.
Dec 15, 1942 — Jul 14, 2025
Hyde Park
George Searcy Jr. was born on December 15, 1942, to the late George Anderson, Sr. and Ola Mae Hollis Searcy of Thomaston, GA.
George was one of fourteen children and deeply adored by his parents, siblings, and extended family. He received his formal education at Drake High School in Thomaston, Georgia, where he first discovered his love and passion for music. During his time there, he played the saxophone and quickly earned the reputation of being ONE OF THE BEST! After high school, George relocated to Atlanta, and then to Boston in the early 60s where his journey continued to unfold.
George worked for 25 years at the Polaroid Corporation before retiring. It was there that he met his soulmate and beloved wife, Maryann (Pinckney) Searcy of Cross, South Carolina. They shared more than 40 beautiful years together before her earthly departure in 2014. Together, they built a loving and blended family, bound by mutual respect and filled with lasting memories.
George was a man of many talents. In addition to playing the saxophone, he also played the piano and harmonica. He had a deep love for the blues and found great joy in making music.
Beyond music, George had a passion for working on cars. He proudly owned a collection of old classic cars, and many family members fondly recall the joy of taking a memorable ride in at least one of them. This love and skill were passed down to his son, Tyrone, and the two shared countless hours together working under the hood—right up until George was no longer physically able to do so.
He also had a love for travel—whether by car or by plane—and was fortunate enough to visit many states and countries throughout his life. Some of his favorite destinations were Paris, Aruba, and Las Vegas.
George was a Mason, and was a member of Rising Sun Lodge #3.
On Monday, July 14, 2025, George completed his earthly journey, surrounded by the love of his family. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit, kindness, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish George's memories are his ten children: Carmen Williams of Atlanta, GA, James Marbury of Clarksville, TN, Derrick Searcy of Atlanta, GA, Gwendolyn Hollis of Washington, GA, Dwayne Douglas of Boston, MA, Bruce (Denitrid) Pinckney of Statesboro, GA, Avis (Antoine) Searcy-Bradley of Fairburn, GA, Tyrone Searcy of Boston, MA, George (Lakia) Mantre Mongo of Boston, MA, and Tyreesa Searcy of Atlanta, GA.; his siblings, Jessie (Sheila) Searcy, Anderson (Dot) Searcy and Geneva Williams. His legacy also includes 31 Grandchildren and 55 Great-Grandchildren.
