George Enoch Groomes was born on October 4, 1936 to Esther L. Groomes and George Groomes. He attended Boston Public Schools in his early years and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School For Boys in 1954. His father was one of the first black firemen in Boston and his mother was a Boston Public School Teacher.

George was a devout Catholic. He served as an alter boy at St. Richard's Church in Roxbury and attended Mass there for many years surrounded by his siblings, David, Tommy and Charlotte and his parents-he had a good life.

George joined the Air Force Reserve in 1955 and served as an Air Force Policeman at Hanscom AFB in Bedford, Massachusetts for eight years.

In 1963 he married his wife Patricia Galloway and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage. They gave birth to their daughter Carole in 1965 who grew up to be a blessing to them both.

In 1968, he graduated from Northeastern University with a B.S. degree in History and Government. While there he completed all of his Maters degree studies as well.

George worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He was the Chief Child Welfare Supervisor for the entire state. He retired after 42 years of service and was recognized by both the Governor and State Senate for his exemplary work. After retirement, he continued working part-time at the MBTA where he stayed for seven years.

George was passionate about sports and followed the New England Patriots and Boston Celtics-with loud enthusiasm-when they were playing. George and Patricia enjoyed travelling and went to such places as Egypt, Europe, Canada and the Caribbean.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Patricia, daughter Carole, sister Charlotte, brothers-in-law, Wayne (Donna) Galloway, Ronald (Pat) Galloway and sister-in-law Gail Galloway. George's legacy include his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kiana, Chanel, Devine, Jashawn, Asia, Dakari, Aniya, Kendall and Avianna..

He survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
