Eleanor Elizabeth Barnes Mapp was born June 5th, 1930, to the late Tassie (Hurdle) Barnes and Davis Barnes, in Edenton North Carolina. Ellie was raised in a Christian home. At an early age she was baptized and became a member of the Warren Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. J. E. Tillett.
Ellie sung in the Sunday School Choir as It was called in those days, the Jr. Usher Board. She loved serving.
After moving to Massachusetts Ellie joined the Southern Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. D. Slater. She was the oldest member in the church until her passing.
In the early nineties Ellie retired from Wellesley College, June 5th, 1992. She would always say, "I'm still young, I'm going back to work," so she did. She went back and retired from the City of Boston School system. Her hobby was bowling, where she received many trophies which she treasured.
She always loved her plants and flowers. In the early years Ellies would get up every Sunday morning, go to the florist, and put fresh flowers in the church. In addition to Angela Marshall who she would always say, "I didn't birth you, but you are just like my child." And would always say, "Mable don't get jealous". London and Mason Marshall were like her grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory three brothers: Raymond (Charlotte), Larry (Linda), and Percy (Barbara) all of North Carolina. One sister: Marjorie Miller of Milton, MA. Her godson known as San man. 17 nieces, 9 nephews, a host of great-great nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Ellie will be missed by all who knew her.
