Obituary

Dorothy (Dottie) Wright Prioleau, age 88, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, peacefully entered eternal rest on November 9, 2025. She was born on November 2, 1937, in Eutawville, South Carolina, the eldest child of Annie Ruth Wearing Bailey (deceased). Her grandparents, Jacob and Quennie Wright, played a special role in her upbringing.

During her teen years, Dorothy worked in her grandfather's grocery store, an important hub within the local community. She graduated from Roberts High School in 1956 and continued working at the store until embarking on the next chapter of her life.

On August 20, 1959, she married her sweetheart, Daniel Prioleau of Eutawville, South Carolina, and relocated to Boston, Massachusetts. From this union, five children were born: Cornelius, Cassandra, Lisa, Vanessa, and Daniel Jr. Her children were her world.

In 1960, she joined Columbus Avenue A.M.E. Zion Church, led by Reverend J. C. Brown. Dorothy eventually became a member of the Cathedral Choir and sang with the group for many years. She valued fellowship with her church family and was known for her elegant Sunday style, always adorned in color-coordinated outfits with matching hats.

Dorothy's lifelong dedication to helping people was evident in every stage of her career, from her years at Martin Nursing Home to running her own daycare for several years before retirement.

Dorothy touched all who knew her. Her home was a haven—a place where friends and family were nourished both in body and in spirit. For as long as her health allowed, she carried on the tradition of Sunday dinners, serving delicious meals followed by homemade desserts, each prepared with love. She stayed closely connected to those she cherished most, making countless phone calls to offer encouragement, share laughter, and remind loved ones that they were always on her mind and in her heart.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; her mother, Annie Ruth; her stepfather, Peter Bailey; siblings, Rev. Dr. Kenneth Bailey, Bernard Bailey, and Margaret Bailey; daughter-in-law, Tammi Prioleau (beloved wife of Daniel Prioleau Jr.); and brother-in-laws, Willie (Mamie Lee) Prioleau, Ruben (Henrietta) Prioleau, Abraham Prioleau, Joe Prioleau, Samuel Prioleau, and James (Bernice) Prioleau.

Dorothy's legacy includes her children: Cornelius (Sharon), Cassandra, Lisa, Vanessa, and Daniel Jr.; grandchildren: Timothy, Shamika, Sade, Kerry, Kiante, and Cornelius (Neil) Jr.; and great-grandchildren: Destiny, Trinity, Treysaun, Taelynn, Ythen, and Owen, all of Boston, Massachusetts.

Dorothy's loving siblings—William (Michon) Bailey and Archie (Sheretta) Bailey of Washington, D.C.;  Shirley (Leon) Oliver and Joanne Lawton of Eutawville, SC.; sister- in-laws, Doris A. Bailey, Ida Baily, Annie Lee Prioleau, Evern Prioleau, Otta Lee Prioleau and Rosa Lee James all of Eutawville, SC., as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends are left to honor her memory.
