Doris M.
Johnson
Sep 30, 1930 — May 24, 2026
Doris Maud Johnson (Gordon), born September 30, 1930, in St. Catherine, Jamaica, entered into eternal rest on May 24, 2026, held in the love of family and the comforting presence of the Lord. Born to George and Naomi Gordon, Doris was the ninth of ten children—and the last of her siblings to be called home. She carried their legacy with grace, humility, and a quiet strength that shaped her entire life.
On January 24, 1960, Doris was united in marriage to Israel Augustus Johnson (deceased). Together they built a life grounded in faith, love, and steadfast commitment. Their union was blessed with five children, and their home became a place of warmth, discipline, and spiritual foundation.
A longstanding and faithful member of Twelfth Baptist Church, Doris devoted herself wholeheartedly to the work of the Lord. She served joyfully in the King Solomon Ministry, offered compassion and care through the Thrift Shop, and was a trusted and diligent Correspondence Secretary. Her gentle spirit also touched the lives of many little ones as a dedicated Junior Church Volunteer, where her patience and warmth created a safe, loving space for children to grow.
Doris lived out her faith with sincerity and consistency, embodying the scripture, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Her kindness, her steady encouragement, and her willingness to serve wherever needed left an imprint on everyone she encountered.
She is survived by her beloved children: Angela Dixon (MA), Joan Johnson (DC), Judith Henry, (Barrington) (MA), Jeffrey Johnson (NC), and Jossette Johnson (MA).
Doris was also blessed with a beautiful legacy of grandchildren: Andrea Demetrius, Kimberly Johnson, Ida Henry, Terrell Henry, Christian Johnson, Naomi Johnson, Jannai Johnson, and Danielle Johnson.
Her joy extended to the next generation through her great-granddaughter, Nyssa Soheil Johnson, who brought her immense delight and pride.
Though their hearts grieve, her family rests in the blessed assurance that Doris is now reunited with her beloved husband, parents, and siblings, resting peacefully in the presence of the Lord.
She leaves behind a large, loving extended family, including many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will continue to celebrate her life and cherish the memories they shared with her.
A Repast will follow at Twelfth Baptist Church, Roxbury, MA, where family and friends may gather in fellowship to honor Doris' life and legacy.
To reflect the spirit with which she lived, the family lifts the words of her cherished hymn: "I've had some good days… I won't complain."
