Diane
Giles
May 20, 1949 — Oct 10, 2025
Jamaica Plain
Diane Giles passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion to family and community.
Born on May 20, 1949, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA, Diane was the oldest daughter of Eugene and Mary Helen Chandler. The Chandler family spent their early years in Atlanta before relocating to Indianapolis, IN, and ultimately settling in Boston, MA - a city that would become home for Diane for the remainder of her life.
Diane attended the Timilty Middle School in Roxbury and ultimately graduated from Dorchester High School. As a teenager, she naturally stepped into the role of caretaker & provider helping to raise her younger siblings while their parents worked.
On November 18, 1968, Diane married the love of her life, Linwood Giles of Baltimore, MD. Their union was blessed with two beautiful children: Lenny (Mush) & Nikki. Diane was a devoted wife and loving mother who enjoyed spending quality time with her family.
Diane enjoyed a long and fulfilling career, serving in various roles throughout her lifetime. She worked for the City of Boston's Unemployment Office, Consumers, and Filene's Basement before joining the Veterans Administration Hospital in both Brockton and West Roxbury where she dedicated more than 40 years helping others as a Kinesio therapy assistant. Following her retirement, she continued to serve her community most recently as President of the Forest Hills Housing Cooperative Association.
Diane was a woman of many talents and passions. She loved cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends, but sewing was her true gift. She learned to sew at an early age and went on to create beautiful garments/pieces for weddings, proms, family events, and functions held at New Hope Baptist Church, where she was a member.
Diane is survived by her children, Linwood Giles Jr and his wife Stephanie Giles of Avon, MA and Yvette N Ware and her husband David J Ware of Hyde Park, MA.
Diane leaves behind several grandchildren including Brandon D Williams (deceased), Lyric B Giles, Laila A Giles, Linwood Giles III, Tianna J Martin, David J Ware II and Devin J Ware.
Diane also leaves to cherish her memory her siblings Eugene Chandler, Willie James Chandler and his wife Jo Ann Chandler, Patricia Chandler and Brenda Chandler Whitlock and her husband Bernard Whitlock, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts & cousins.
Her warmth, strength and compassion will forever live in the hearts of all who knew her.
