Dexter Dillard Eure, Jr.

January 3, 1957 – April 25, 2024

Dexter was the first son born to Dexter Dillard Eure, Sr. and Marjorie Ann Eure (Lowe) on January 3, 1957, in Brookline, MA. Reverend Laviscount at St. Marks Congregational Church in Boston baptized him; Dexter's godparents were Dorothy Parks and Paul Parks. Dexter was a shining light for his family and other people whose lives he touched.

Dexter spent his early years in the Dorchester and Roxbury neighborhoods of Boston, attended public elementary school, then fourth grade at the then-named Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge. In1965, the family moved to Sharon, MA where Dexter graduated from high school in 1974. Growing up, Dexter enjoyed playing and excelled in football and basketball. He also marched with his father in several civil rights demonstrations. After high school, Dexter earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications (broadcasting) with a minor in psychology at Morehouse College in Atlanta. While in college, Dexter was a copy carrier for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a summer intern at WEEI in Boston, and a programming assistant at the NBC affiliate in Atlanta. Following graduation from Morehouse, he worked as a customer service representative for Allstate Insurance Company in Burlington, MA.

For most of his career, Dexter was employed as a customer service agent for Northwest Airlines and then Delta Airlines when the two carriers were combined; he was stationed at various times in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Boston, and for a few months in Berlin, Germany. Dexter's co-workers admired him for being professional, confident, kind, patient, helpful, and hardworking in his dealings with both customers and co-workers. His quick response once saved the life of a colleague by Dexter performing the Heimlich maneuver. He also was a certified agent instructor, computer instructor, and the recipient of numerous awards and hundreds of complimentary letters from customers. At various points at Northwest, Dexter carried out extra duties as a union official with the International Association of Machinists at Logan Airport, helping co-workers navigate workplace issues. In addition, for many years he served the wider Boston community on behalf of the two airlines as a United Way representative and volunteer for the Boston Marathon.

Dexter had a fun and adventurous spirit. He traveled extensively and visited Hawaii many times because he loved surfing, boogie boarding, being in the water, and spending time on the beach. Dexter also made sure that his parents could share his passion for travel by obtaining airline passes to many countries. He accompanied his mother on trips to Singapore and South Korea. In addition, Dexter's occasional work as a D.J. (aka KDEX) was a natural extension of his wide range of musical tastes from James Brown to Stevie Nicks. He was also drawn to parachuting, parasailing, snow and water-skiing and attended many NHRA drag races. Dexter once took his 10-year-old twin nephews on a trip to New Jersey to attend a racing event.

Dexter was a spiritual person and a believer in God's grace. He loved to read the Lord's Prayer and the Daily Word for inspiration, introspection, and comfort. Dexter always enjoyed making people smile with his jokes and he always supported family and friends during both good and challenging times.

Dexter became ill in late 2019 and thus began his cancer survival fight for almost five years. Recurring cancer resulted in his left leg amputation in 2022. He belonged to both a men's cancer support group and amputation peer group and was guided by wonderful social workers.

Dexter was called to his heavenly home on April 25, 2024, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA. The family is grateful for how Dexter enriched their lives. Heart-felt thanks are extended to his doctors, oncology team members and to his faithful, devoted caregiver Kenny Iffih.

Dexter is survived by his mother, Marjorie Ann Eure, his brothers, David Eure (and sister-in-law Carolyn McCarthy), Philip Eure, nephews Coby and Nicholas, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends. Dexter's marriage of ten years ended in divorce.

The family extends thanks for the expressions of love and support through prayers, telephone calls, text messages, pictures, videos, social media posts, cards, visits and other acts of kindness and sympathy for their beloved Dexter, who was deeply cherished.
