Obituary

David "Doc" Melvin, Jr. was born on  February 2, 1963 in Altavista Virginia and was the only child to the late David Melvin Sr. and Lorena (McCraw.) Melvin he then relocated to Boston Massachusetts with his family.  They resided on 103 Standard Street in Mattapan, Massachusetts where he got in childhood mischief with his best friend Charlie Potter.  During his formative years he attended Boston Latin and then furthered his education with a concentration in Accounting at Boston Business School.

While attending Boston Business School he meet his future wife Cassandra "Sandy" (Harris) Melvin.  Doc and Sandy were married on December 20, 1982 and this union birthed 2 sons,  Derron and Brandon Melvin.

He had the distinct pleasure of joining  the Boston Police Academy on February 27, 1989 and then became a graduate from the Boston Polce Academy in August of 1989.  He had the great honor,  in April of 1990 where he joined the gang unit.

Doc, enjoyed making the City of Boston a lot safer with his Partner and best friend Rick Johnson.  As his career progressed, he later transferred to a different unit and station.

During that time his love for music led him to start a group within the Boston Police Department.  The "Men in Blue"  sang about keeping the City of Boston's streets safe and clean.   Doc, was more than just a job description.  He took the responsibility of leading, protecting, and providing seriously both in his career and personal life.

Everyone was aware that Doc was an annoying Lakers fan and he was even more of an annoying Kobe Bryant fan!  After the Lakers it was pretty much anyone playing against the Celtics, which was confusing to some because he loved the Red Sox.

After retirement, he enjoyed spending his days with is friends and family competing with board games, bowling, and other sports.

His grandchild lit up his entire world.  We will miss Doc for the rest of our days.

Doc leaves to mourn, his mother Lorena Melvin, his two sons Derron and Brandon Melvin, grandson Ayden Melvin of Easton Ma, granddaughter Ava Harrison of Birmingham, Alabama.  His Aunts Daisy Morgan and Mary McCraw, Mother-in-law Ilena Harris.  His niece Kaila Colston, Jasmine Harris and nephews Jarron and Jason Randal & Dimitri Harris  Doc, has a host of first cousins, Marc Studivent of Brockton who is his God brother.  Brian and Cory McCraw,  Steve and Tony Morgan and Arland Little.  A a host of first cousins from down south.  His brother-in-laws Darrel, David, Paris, Stan Harris, and Jason Randal.  His sister-in-law Melanie Colston  and a host of close relatives and friends.
