In loving memory of David Allen Lewis Sr., also known as Big David, a cherished member of the Newton community who passed away at the age of 77. He was born in Roxbury, MA, on May 21, 1946, to Eldon and MaeDora Lewis. David was educated in the Boston Public School System. He was known for his intellect, sharp mind, and keen sense of fashion. His wisdom and wit were appreciated by those who knew him. His legacy as a smart and insightful individual will be fondly remembered by all fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. David Sr.'s profound understanding of love and genuine affection for family were some of his most endearing qualities. He valued the bonds of friendship as much as those of blood, treating his friends as if they were part of his own family. His inclusive and caring nature created a sense of belonging and warmth for those lucky enough to be considered his friends. David Sr.'s legacy of love and genuine friendship will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those he touched. David Sr. was also a man of many passions and brought joy to those around him through his love for family, music, and his unique, quirky pronunciation of words that always brought a smile to people's faces. David Lewis played a pivotal role in forming the Albany Street Reunion Association. United by cherished memories and deep-rooted bonds, old friends and family came together to make a difference. Driven by a shared desire, ASRA's mission was to make a positive impact on the lives of children in their community. ASRA hosted themed parties and lively cookouts, all aimed at raising funds to brighten the lives of the youth, offering them Christmas presents and other gifts. David Lewis Sr. retired from Brandon Residential Treatment Center. He loved his career and created bonds with his coworkers and youth. He also created employment opportunities for many others. Beyond investing time with youth at Brandon, David Sr. created opportunities for them outside of the usual work setting that was equally nurturing. He regularly brought them into his home, family functions, and church, where they experienced love and care, often missing from their lives. David Sr.'s impact on the youth he worked with went beyond basic support. He provided them with something far more valuable - a sense of belonging. For over 50 years, David Sr. shared his life with his partner, Renita Tyler. His legacy lives on through his seven children, affectionately known as the "Stars of David." Each child carries a unique bond with their father and holds a special place in his heart. The stars that shine brightly are Kimberly Bordley and Mark (Kiet) Bordley, whose mother is Doris Bordley. David (Nicole) Lewis, Jr. and Storme Lewis, whose mother is Pam Lewis. Kris (Eleanor) Tyler, Keir (Damon) Araujo, and RaQuim (Christina) Tyler, whose mother is Renita Tyler. In addition to his immediate family, David Sr. is survived by his brother, Michael (Brenda) Lewis, and two sisters, Toni Barboza and Carla Lewis.  He is also survived by his only surviving aunt Charlene Smith. David Sr. faced life's challenges, having endured the loss of his parents and two brothers, Steven Orlando and Baron Stacy Lewis. David Sr.'s passing leaves behind a beautiful and extensive family legacy. He was not only a beloved father but also a cherished grandfather whom his grandchildren called "Poppy." His 21 grandchildren are Kymira, Ayana, Mark Jr., Geoffrey, Diamond, Neveah, David III, T'Lani, Kayla, Kira, Cameron, Troi, Ty, Kori-Reign, Morgan, Damon Jr., Kyan-King, Tristan, Brooklyn-Simone, Xavier-Baron, Jordan and a great-grandfather to 6 great-grandchildren. David Sr. leaves a vast network of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. His love extended across generations, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of his descendants. As we mourn the loss of David Lewis Sr., let's also celebrate the life he lived and the impact he made on the lives of those around him. May his memory be a guiding light, and may his legacy of loving and seeking the truth continue to resonate in the hearts of all fortunate enough to have known him.
