Obituary

Beloved wife of John E. Galloway, Claire Esther Galloway (Gibbs), affectionately known as "Ma, GG, and Nanny," transitioned to heaven on August 14, 2024, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She was 88.

Claire was born in Boston on March 22, 1936, the daughter of the late William Gibbs and Doris Roberts Gibbs. She attended and graduated from Acer Grade Elementary School and then Girls High. Claire was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother who loved her family and, more importantly, God. She was known for her famous phrase, "Say Thank You, Jesus."

In 1957, Claire married the love of her life, John E. Galloway, of Boston, Massachusetts. She was a devoted mother of four children. Claire served with honor and dedication as a special education paraprofessional in the Boston Public Schools for twenty-eight years. Her commitment to educating and caring for children with special needs was a testament to her compassionate heart.

Claire had an unbreakable spirit. She was often quiet but always listening. She showed her love by always being there for others, providing strength, love, and care beyond measure.

Claire was a nurturing soul and a natural-born caretaker. Her presence and hospitality connected her with others. You could always find her sitting on her porch and "holding court," lending a listening ear and instilling wisdom, strength, and compassion. The Galloway family home was a place of solace and joy for all who entered.

After retiring, Claire enjoyed caring for her husband and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When her lifelong love, "Johnny," passed in October 2012, she continued to be a source of love and guidance for her family. She now joins her late sister, Rosalie Ward, and brother, Charles Belim, in glory. Claire's memory will be treasured by her children Michelle (Curtis) Parker, Lena Reddick (Ken Still), Ipyana Wasret, and Claire (James) Jones, seven grandchildren, and generations of great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives she touched with her gentle spirit.

As we lay Claire to rest, we are consoled by the promise of our faith that she is now at peace in the loving embrace of our Lord. We celebrate her life, a life well-lived in service to her family, her faith, and her community.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the

Alzheimer's Foundation in memory of Claire and John Galloway,

whose compassion and kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew them both.
