Cicily Pamela (Butcher) O'Bryant, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, and great grandmother was peacefully called home on Friday April 26, 2024, at the age of 91. Cicily was born February 11, 1933, in her beloved homeland of Barbados. She was the second of four children born to Lewis and Kate Butcher.  After Lewis passed away in 1937, Kate and her infant son (Cicily's brother) immigrated to the U.S. to find employment and to be with family. In 1942 Cicily and her two sisters journeyed to the U.S. to be reunited with her mother and brother. Armed with her Bajan roots, Cicily grew up in a close-knit family in Boston where they developed a strong sense of community.  Cicily's strong commitment to family deeply defines her life's focus. After graduating from Roxbury Memorial High School in 1950, Cicily went onto clerical school before working at the Army Base Shipyard doing clerical work. She would ultimately go on to future work as what was traditionally known as secretarial or administrative assistant work at Roxbury Comprehensive Health Center and the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity (METCO). Cicily and her sisters were active members of St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church in Roxbury. In 1960, Cicily and John were married at the Boston University Chapel and took residence in Dorchester and became members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Columbia Road. Cicily was a loving wife, mother, and partner as they raised five rapidly growing boys and Cicily would become a trusted and active participant in John's quickly emerging political aspirations.  She was an active and dependable confidant in all aspects of John's political strategizing. John, with Cicily by his side, would go on to be one of Boston's favorite sons and a historical public figure in education. Cicily's greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren, extended family, and members of the community where she would also care for her neighbor's children.  She was a dedicated wife to her late husband John, and a loving mother to her five children John, James, Richard, Paul, and Bruce.  Her grandchildren brought her immense happiness, and she cherished every moment she spent with them. Cicily was an active member at St. Mark's where she and John involved their children in all the programs available to the families of the congregation. She served in several leadership roles in the church including Sunday school teacher, secretary, assistant treasurer, and an active member of the vestry.  She loved Saint Mark's and was also involved in several committees with the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. Cicily leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment to family, extended family, church family and numerous community members that she encountered and the lives of all who knew her. Cicily is survived by her children; John (Bridgette) O'Bryant, Dorchester, MA; James (Elissa) O'Bryant, Attleboro, MA; Richard (Lanice) O'Bryant, Dorchester, MA; Paul O'Bryant, Dorchester, MA; and Bruce (Lilly) O'Bryant, Long Beach, CA; her grandchildren: Jabrina, Gregory, Chantel, John Daunte, Shakera, Christian, JohnRichard, Conner, JohnMichael, David, Zayvion, Zalyla, and Zamir; great grandchildren: Merquitio, Amari and Zamyrah; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings, Carmen Goodridge, Natick, MA, and Norma McGregor, Seattle, WA. Cicily is preceded in death by her husband John D. O'Bryant; parents Lewis and Kate Butcher; brother Erskine Butcher; and grandson Kenneth Soberanis.
