Catherine (Barrett)
Day
Jan 15, 1947 — Oct 9, 2023
Boston
Catherine Day, 76, was born on January 15, 1947, in Barnesville, Georgia, to Estella Foster Barrett and James Hughes, Sr. She was raised by Ezzie Lee and Joe Henry Banks, whom she grew to know and love as her Mother and Father.
Catherine moved to Boston at the age of 18 and began working while raising a family with her husband, Edward Skeen. She was a hard-working woman who dedicated more than 20 years to her career at Polaroid. After the passing of Edward, Catherine met Lester Day, fell in love, and married. She was always a friendly soul whose smile would light up any room. She was passionate about Bingo and hanging out with her grandchildren. She was a generous, honest, witty individual who everyone went to for sound advice. She was known for doing what she wanted and living her life how she wanted. Catherine often loved driving from Boston to Georgia, visiting family. She and her best friend Lousie were known to be the bests of best friends, hanging out in Lousie's Lincoln, heading to the casino and racetrack with Walter Mack and Steve. She was known for being a fantastic friend to many and a dedicated member of the community.
Catherine departed this life on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Boston Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her daughter Stephanie Skeen-Folarin, husband Edward Skeen, husband Lester Day, her father, mother, sister Jeanette Banks Kelly, Horace Banks, a host of brothers and sisters, and best friend Louise Brown.
Catherine leaves to cherish her memory: sister Betty Fryer, sister Peggy, brother Lewis J. Barrett, sister Alfreda Owusu, sister Doris Barrett, sister Angelo Barrett, her daughter Sonia Skeen, her son Sean Skeen, nine grandchildren, Donnell, Ashley, David, Tiffany, Talisa, Corine, Aisha, Alexis, Joy and four great-grandchildren, DJ, Daniel, Zachariah and Zaydan and many close friends and family. She will truly be missed.
