Obituary

Carolyn Gibson, of Boston, MA, passed away on September 5, 2025 surrounded by family and friends.

Carolyn was born in Boston's South End on August 6,1953 and was a lifelong Boston resident. She attended Commonwealth High School, where she met some of her closest and life-long friends, who called themselves the Little Old Ladies Club. As part of an international exchange program she traveled to many places around the world. She attended Simmons College, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Administration, and the MIT Center for Real Estate Executive Property Management Program.

Carolyn had a career as a Property Manager and in 1990, established her real estate management company, Gibraltar Associates, Inc. and later began a consulting company, Synergy Professional Services.

Carolyn held many leadership positions. She received the ARM and CPM designations and was President of the Boston Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) Boston. She was also a member of the Black Property Managers Forum, after recognizing the lack of representation and community needed for Black real estate professionals.

Carolyn's management company was a training ground for family members to be involved in the property management business. She was adamant about Black community members having dignity in where they lived.

All her life Carolyn was an artist, performer and vocalist for the band Ghetto Society. She was a part of many bands and youth groups and sang across Boston.

Carolyn was also a writer who published books, articles, and poetry providing guidance on a range of topics including property management, renting, life and love.

Carolyn enjoyed international travel, going on cruises, and taking day trips in the summer with her sister Elaine and nieces. Some of her local favorite places were Revere Beach and Salem Willows. She was a caring sister and enjoyed her role in the family as the "fun aunt."

She was a proud Golden Life Member Boston of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority alumnae chapter and served as President from 1989-1991.

Carolyn Gibson is preceded in death by her parents Mose Gibson and Mary Ellen (Hill) Gibson and siblings Imogene Gibson Karawa, Stanley Gibson, and Elaine Gibson. She leaves behind her cat Tuxedo, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
