Carey Laurence Harris, Jr., affectionately known as “Kur” was born on November 28, 1957 to Carey Laurence Harris, Sr. and Evangeline Harris, in Newport News, VA. Carey grew up in Boston, a city that remained an important part of his identity and held many of the people and memories he cherished throughout his life.

Carey was a beautiful soul who carried both light and struggle throughout his life. Though he faced the difficult realities of mental illness and addiction, those battles were only one part of his story. Beneath them was a man with a heart of gold, gentle, giving, funny, creative, and deeply loved.
