Obituary

Brenda Jefferson Love was the second of five children born to the late Freddie Lee Jefferson, Sr. and Gloria Swain Jefferson in Boston, Massachusetts. Brenda began her Christian journey at an early age, being baptized at the Holy Tabernacle Church.

Brenda was the proud granddaughter of the late Rev. Dr. H. G. Swain of Windsor, North Carolina. She enjoyed spending time with family and spent many summers with her 'granddaddy'. She often vacationed with her aunt, Mother Lee Powell, who was extremely helpful in navigating her college application and entry process.  She loved to travel and frequently did so with her mother.  Brenda, along with her immediate family, was pivotal in supporting her sister, April, in her bid for both Miss Massachusetts and Miss Universe, where April placed Second in each entry.

Education was always a top priority in her family. Brenda's father desired that all his children attend church, attend college, and own their homes. Brenda achieved all three. She graduated with honors from the Brookline Public Schools under the METCO Program, earned a B.A. from Boston University in Communications and a Master's degree in education from Cambridge College, Cambridge, MA, by the age of 21. She co-founded the Community Academy in Boston, an alternative school for students with interrupted or challenging educational paths.  She remained principal of the Academy until her retirement.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Freddie Lee Jefferson, Sr., her brother Freddie Lee, Jr. and her husband, Melvin Love. She leaves to mourn her sudden passing her mother, Gloria Swain Jefferson; sisters Dr. Patricia Jefferson Bradley of Phila, PA, April Sroka of New Hampshire and brothers Michael Jefferson of Springfield, MA and William Kennedy of New York City. Nephews: Mitchell, Trey and Tyler; Nieces Amanda, Jessica, Anissa, Ashley, Crystal and Gina, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

We will miss her greatly, but she will never be forgotten.
