Barbara Ann Mills Washington is the tenth child born to Mattie Mills and Andrew Hurry. Barbara Ann was born August 23, 1944 in Monroeville, AL. Barbara attended Rosenwald School and Union High School in Monroeville, AL. In 1960, Barbara moved to Boston, in 1970, she married James T. Washington. Barbara worked as a mail clerk for the US Postal Service for many years. She retired as a nurse's assistant in 1995. In 1998 she worked Part time alongside side family at St John St James Educational until 2004.

Barbara is a member of the Eliot Congregational Church in Roxbury, Massachusetts where she serves on the Usher Board and 'Just Us" Seniors Ministry. Barbara enjoyed traveling being with family and laughing. Her favorite phrase was " Who loves you baby". While being a dialysis patient she still enjoyed traveling and being with family.

Barbara was preceded in transition by Her Parents Mattie Mills, and Andrew Hurry, husband James T. Washington, Five brothers Henry Mills Jr, Johnny Mills, Arnold Mills, Theodore Mills and Eddie Mills. Two sisters Dorthy Dennis, and Betty L. Taylor. Grand-daughter Mylicia Wheeler. One sister in-law Juanita Jones of Lexington, Ky and one Brother in-law Eugene Washington of Lexington, Ky. She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters Elois Crook of Dallas TX, Rosie Mae Clausell of Stone Mountain, Ga. One sister-in law Hattie Bell Mills of Slidell, LA. Her children Calvin Washington of Washington D.C, Valerie Wheeler, Avis Washington and Lakish Washington, all of Boston, Ma. She gained two bonus children in her union with James; Ella Smith of Lexington, Ky and Reverend James T. Washington Jr of Campbellsville, Ky. Twelve Grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and one great- great- grand son. A host of family and friends.
