With hearts anchored in faith and love, we celebrate the life and homegoing of Barbara Emelda Adams, a virtuous woman of God whose life was a testament to grace, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her Lord and family.

Born on the beautiful island of Trinidad, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents. Barbara's mother Louisa Lewis was instrumental in the development of her vibrant spirit and deep-rooted Christian faith that would guide her throughout her life. Barbara was a devoted and loving mother to six children: Andrea Lewis (deceased), Clarine Carter (deceased), Dr. Ingrid Tanda, Rev. Lima Lewis-Guy, Martin Lewis (deceased), and Retired Marine Sgt. Dexter King.

She was also a proud grandmother of seventeen and a cherished great-grandmother of twelve. Her legacy lives on through each generation she nurtured with love, wisdom, and faith.

Barbara served with dignity and excellence in her early years, working for the Prime Minister of Trinidad. Her journey later brought her to the United States, where she settled in Marshall, Minnesota, serving as a governess for the family of the Weiner sausage company. Through every season, Barbara walked in purpose, guided by God's hand.

Eventually, Barbara made Massachusetts her home, where her faith continued to flourish. In the 1970s, she became a part of the beloved community at Twelfth Baptist Church. Later, in Haverhill, she joined Calvary Baptist Church, where she found great joy in fellowship and worship among a loving body of believers. Her presence in the house of the Lord was steadfast, reflecting the words of Psalm 122:1: "I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord."

Barbara worked faithfully in the dietary department at University Hospital until her retirement, serving others with kindness and care. Beyond her work, she was known for her radiant personality—her laughter could fill a room, her humor could lift any burden, and her love brought warmth to all who knew her. She cherished dancing, shopping, traveling, and above all, spending time with her family.

Even through the challenges of dementia, one thing remained beautifully untouched—her knowledge of the Word of God. Scripture lived within her heart. In the final month of her life, Barbara was heard praying, ushering herself into the presence of the Lord. In a sacred and tender moment, she turned to her daughter, acknowledged her transition, and expressed her desire for her daughter to one day be with her in heaven—an echo of Christ's promise in John 14:2-3: "In my Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you."

Barbara's life reflected 2 Timothy 4:7: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." She has now entered into eternal rest, rejoicing in the presence of her Savior. Though our hearts grieve, we do not mourn without hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13), for we know she now dwells in glory, free from pain, dancing in heavenly joy, and resting in the everlasting arms of God. Well done, thy good and faithful servant. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and eternally remembered.
