Obituary

Annie Walker Wright, born October 1, 1938, in Cuthbert, Georgia, to Mary (Deliford) Walker and E.C. Walker, peacefully departed this life on January 9, 2025. Annie married her childhood sweetheart, Otis Wright. They shared nearly 60 years of love before his passing. Their union was blessed with two sons, Thomas (deceased) and Anthony.

From an early age, Annie showed her industrious nature by working in the cotton fields to help contribute to her family. Annie was a "good worker." She could pick 200 pounds of cotton and not get tired! She was known for being quick and prosperous in that endeavor. She would cut wood for her fireplace and was sometimes referred to as a "tomboy" because girls did not do that.

She continued that work ethic in her 40-year career at Raytheon with grace, dedication and commitment to help others. She shared her knowledge to train others. Annie loved working at Raytheon because she enjoyed working with her hands. She took pride in her work while balancing her household responsibilities. Working the second shift allowed Annie to meet her family's needs while providing a comfortable living.

Annie was a woman of deep faith in God who found her home at Southern Baptist Church. She received the Grace Glaude Service Award for her "love of God, service to Southern Baptist Church, and encouraging other woman."

Annie was skilled in the kitchen as well. She made hot collard greens that burned your mouth and kept you wanting more. FRIED pork chops were her specialty. "A fried pork chop is better than a plain one." Be careful! With some homemade biscuits, you knew you were in a soul food haven filled with love and Southern down-home flavor.

Annie's green thumb was unmatched. She spent countless hours in her garden tending to vegetables like greens, tomatoes, and snap peas; fruits such as figs, grapes, and pears; and vibrant flowers like tulips and roses. When not nurturing her family or garden, Annie enjoyed solving word searches and crossword puzzles, watching movies, and ending her evenings with Steve Harvey on Family Feud.

She leaves behind her son Anthony (Shelly), grandchildren, Shaena (Kevin), Chance (Sarah), Tayja, Tamera, and Anthony, Jr.. Her great grandchildren Heaven Shalia and Nyara. Annie's remaining siblings are Johnny Walker (Cora), Sadie Hodges, Eddie Walker and Sallie Walker. Annie is survived by a host of relatives and friends who will forever celebrate her life and spirit.
