Obituary

AC McNeil of, Brockton, Massachusetts, passed away on September 20, 2026, at the age of 79.

AC McNeil, affectionately known as “Mack” and “Ace” was born March 18, 1947, in Safford, Alabama, to the late Henry McNeil, Sr and Carsetta Pettaway. He grew up in Safford, Alabama, which remained an important part of who he was. He learned from his parents at an early age the importance of family, which led him to being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He was a man with a heart of gold, gentle, giving, funny, creative, and deeply loved. If someone needed a helping hand whether it was taking care of a sick loved one or something as simple as changing a tire, he was there, no questions asked ready to lend a helping hand. He could fix anything, make anything out of nothing, he was our real life, Macgyver. He was a man of few words but once you got him to going, there was no stopping him. When he wasn’t spending time with family and friends, he enjoyed telling jokes, cooking, fishing, playing pool and bowling. He had a popular saying “Never Let Anyone Change the Person You Are”, words that he truly lived by. He will be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

AC was joined in matrimony to Ethel Brown on October 15, 1966. He began his working life as an Orderly at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Alabama. He worked at Parisian Department Store in the shipping department as a Truck Driver, shortly after he moved to Boston, Massachusetts in 1973, where he worked at Edison Brothers Shoe Store in Wilmington, MA for 15 years. He later retired as a Boston Public School Bus Driver after 33 years of service.

AC is preceded in death by his beloved mother and father Henry and Carsetta McNeil, his sisters Carrie Williams (Joe) and Rosie L. Guthridge and is survived by Rosie’s husband, David Guthridge, his beloved granddaughter Dresha McNeil and beloved grandson Isaiah Gamble. He is survived by his wife Ethel McNeil of 60 years.
