Thelma Jean Peele was born in Bath, North Carolina on December 12, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Vernell Peele and Mollie Oden-Peele. Thelma was raised in Little Washington, North Carolina and attended Washington PS Jones School. She put her education on hold and relocated to Long Island, New York, before settling in Boston, Massachusetts in the early 1960’s. She put roots down in Jamaica Plain, where she was a long time resident of the Bromley Heath housing development.
Thelma made a career as an assistant nurse at Quincy Hospital until her retirement. Her love for children and education landed Thelma as a volunteer teacher’s aide at the Blackstone School. Although it was later in her life, Thelma was determined to finish school. She completed classes at Boston Central Adult High School, earning her a High School diploma in 2001. That was a proud moment for her and her family.
Thelma had many passions, but her biggest was her love for God. She was a devoted member of the Tremont Temple Baptist Church, where she was also a member of the Messiah Choir. Her family members looked forward to the Christmas concert every year. If she was not attending church service, Thelma watched the Daystar Channel, where she could listen to the gospel. Thelma also loved the Grit Channel, and thoroughly enjoyed watching Westerns and old films.
Ms. Peele was an active member of the Mission Park Community, where she lived for many years until her passing on August 6, 2019. Thelma enjoyed participating in the group outings and activities that were planned for the residents.
Ms. Peele was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Odessa Peele, and other family members.
Thelma Peele will be lovingly remembered by her five sons; Michael (Laverne) Peele, Ameole Peele, Robert Peele, Bobby (Annette) Peele, and Joseph Peele, nineteen grandchildren; Denise Peele, Michael Peele, Alexiss Peele, Christopher Skinner, India Peele, Shante Smith, Victoria Peele, Everett “Sonny” Peele, Tanzania Peele, Chinah Peele, Ameole Peele, Joseph “Joey” Peele, Ja’Naia Braggs, Robert “Tre” Peele, Bobby “BJ” Peele, Roman Peele, Vernell “Vernie” Peele, Omar Peele, and Nicole Peele.
