Martha Blocker Obituary

Martha “Happy” Ann Blocker entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 24, 2019. She was born on April 16,1950 in Holly Hill, SC to the late Martha Agnes Johnson and Collie Blease Johnson. Happy was united in holy matrimony to Jimmie Blocker on May 23, 1967. From this union they raised three daughters: Kaimy, Aisha “Tia”, and Kirsten.

Happy attended public school in Holly Hill where she was an excellent student, and, later received her high school diploma after attending night school in 1987. She and Jimmie moved to Boston, MA in 1970 where they became devoted members of Deliverance Revival Tabernacle under the late Reverend E.I. Osborne, Sr.

In Boston, Happy sought employment opportunities as a direct care provider at a local nursing home and as a clerical associate at Boston Medical Center. As her family grew, she took on the role of full-time mother until her girls were old enough to attend school. It was then she continued her life of service. She worked as a social worker for the Boston Public Schools, as well as the YWCA’s Aswalos House in Dorchester, MA. There, she would mentor teenage mothers and help them gain valuable resources leading to job opportunities, housing, and healthy families.

Happy was a fighter and an overcomer. Her faith in God was what kept her strong and healed her body throughout the years. She won the battle against breast cancer and many other illnesses. Her doctors stood in amazement. They had no choice but to acknowledge our great God.

Happy never gave up! She was “steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that her labor was not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Throughout her journey, Happy has touched many lives. She’s had a hand in raising several nieces and nephews. When Happy and Jimmie did not have monetary help to give, they would shop their own pantry (or do without), to put food in loved ones’ homes. Her heart and doors were always open to anyone in need—family, friends, and strangers alike. Whether she was counseling on how to potty train, giving advice and encouragement, or feeding others, Happy embodied scripture and shared the gospel with all she came in contact with.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Martha Agnes and Collie Blease Johnson, and siblings Blease Johnson, Collie (Sonny) Johnson, Eartha Brooks, Jacob Johnson, Mozell Taylor, Pearl McMillian, Odell Johnson, Harry Lee Johnson, and Leon Johnson.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of 52 years, Jimmie Blocker. Her children, Kaimy Blocker-Masse (James) of Cary NC, Aisha Blocker, and Kirsten Blocker of Boston, MA. Grandchildren Briyana Blocker, Abijah Masse, and Elisha Masse. Daughters-in-spirit, Tracy Brooks, Toni Brooks, and their children, Skye, Nubian, Selina, Justice, and Wizdom. Godchildren, Monete Johnson and Kellen Johnson.

Her beloved siblings: Marie (Carlton) Jackson, Lafayette (Mildred) Johnson, Ann (Ali) McMillion, Joseph (Evelyn) Johnson, Monroe (Sherry) Johnson, and Ruth (Jimmy) Bradley. In-laws Phil Brooks (Eartha), Lula Johnson (Leon), and Thomas Taylor (Mozell). And, a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends.

“And let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9).

Our beloved Happy receives the greatest reward, Eternal Glory In Heaven!
