Katherine (Aaron) Davis

Katherine (Kathy) Davis of Sebastian, Florida, went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2019. She was born in April of 1938 in Miami Florida, but she and her family moved to Boston in the 1960’s. By 1980, Kathy received her cosmetology license and opened Kathy’s Hair Plus Salon, the first hair salon in Boston to specialize in braids and weave extensions. Her most popular hairstyle was the basket weave extension, where the hair was braided into a hat. 

In 2008, she helped open and named the second Black cosmetology school in Boston, Genesis Academy of Cosmetology. There, she taught full time and part time classes, helping students prepare for the cosmetology exam and become a licensed cosmetologist. Through education, the salon, fashion shows, even a magazine, Kathy inspired many to accept their natural hair and find their creativity and personality through braids and hair styling. 

Amongst her creativity and skills in the hair salon, Kathy loved fashion and making clothes. She was known for sewing her own clothes, crocheting quilts and doll clothes, and even opening a clothing boutique specializing in matching suits, hats and purses. She was the epitome of class, grace and excellence.

As a devoted Christian, Kathy truly loved the Lord and shared her love of God with everyone she met. She planted a seed of faith and in all of her children . She loved to serve her church and community.

Kathy was the daughter of the late Juanita and Tony Aaron and was preceded by death by her husband, Clarence Davis, her sister, Blanche Aaron, her brother, Henry Aaron, her grandson, Courtney Allen and her great great granddaughter, Kylee Daugherty. She is survived by her sister, Joann Aaron, her brother, Richard Aaron, and her eight children: Donald Allen, Herbert Allen Jr., Marvin Allen, Henry Allen, Robin, Allen, Calvert Allen, Leta Allen and Kimberly Allen. She is also survived by 36 grandchildren and a host of great grands and extended family.
