Jeanette Gaines Obituary

Jeanette Christine Gaines, age 65, of Boston, Massachusetts, peacefully joined her beloved Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 15, 2016 after a long illness. Born on October 27, 1950 in Poughkeepsie, NY, Jeanette was the first daughter of loving parents, the late Doris M. and George T. Gaines, III. Raised in Poughkeepsie, she attended city schools and graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1968 where she was adored for her sweet and gentle nature. Jeanette relocated to Boston in the early 1970's with her former husband, the late Armsted R. Christian. Jeanette, a devout Christian, had a long career at West Haven Nursing Home in Roxbury, MA followed by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston where she retired after 20 years. She was a compassionate, loyal, and generous person who would do anything to help those in need. These qualities radiated from her beautiful big brown eyes and her warm, inviting smile. In her younger years, Jeanette was an aspiring artist who loved painting, crocheting, sewing, and performing African dance. Her creative flair and natural talent made her a true artist. Of her many joys, she avidly collected dolls and teddy bears, bestowing each with a special name and meaning. Surviving are siblings Wayne Anderson (Ruth), George T. Gaines Jr., Charlene Goddard and Lori Gaines. She had a love and passion for children and cherished her many nieces and nephews. Her niece, Desarée Colón, held a special connection and was adored as if she were her own child. Jeanette kept a close and genuine friendship throughout her life with her best friend, Patty Jones, of Poughkeepsie. They shared a true and loving bond since childhood, no matter the distance between them. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks, gratitude and sincere appreciation to Judy Lawrence, of Boston. Her dedication to Jeanette as a long time friend, confidant, and selfless caregiver, especially during her times of need, will always be remembered. Beautiful Sister, Cousin, Aunt, and Friend... we love and miss you dearly. You are forever etched in our hearts.
